London’s future is written in code. With the rapid expansion and blossoming of London’s tech sector employers are struggling to fill the growing list of open positions, and when developers are scarce, innovation and growth suffer.
“It is a well documented fact that London has a shortage of qualified developer talent in our city.” Says David Billson, President & CEO at Ellipsis Digital. “The shortage of talent is considered the primary reason for a lack of economic growth within regional technology companies. Programs that increase the technical capacity of our workforce are a welcome addition to our community.”
In comes Lighthouse Labs.
Lighthouse Labs has partnered with London-based TechAlliance to offer their immersive Web Development Bootcamp starting on July 18th, as well as their part-time Intro to Web Development program on May 9th. Potential students and curious community members are encouraged to attend the Info Session taking place on April 20th at 6pm.
Lighthouse Labs offers a Web Development Bootcamp that allows students to go from coding newbie to job-ready developer in 8 weeks. With two core campuses in Vancouver and Toronto, Lighthouse Labs has expanded to offer satellite programs in communities like London, Victoria, Calgary, the Okanagan and Montreal, where the need for talent far outpaces the community’s ability to train developers. The program is designed to teach all the necessary skills for students to start contributing to the local industry immediately upon graduation. Having graduated over 400 students in the past 2 years, over 95% of which were employed within 3 months, Lighthouse Labs has quickly become Canada’s most reliable way to start a new career as a developer.
Marilyn Sinclair, President & CEO at TechAlliance is eager to see more developers join the industry for London to meet it’s true tech potential: “TechAlliance is delighted to partner with Lighthouse Labs to bring their outstanding Web Development Bootcamp program to London. The #1 concern we hear from many of the companies we support is the need for talented developers. This partnership, involving the local tech sector, will directly address this challenge, and provide access to the talent pool that our companies need in order to continue to grow and succeed.”
This isn’t the first time Londoners will have heard the name Lighthouse Labs. Back in February of 2015, over 500 people took part in the London chapter of The HTML500, a free day-long crash course in HTML & CSS, hosted by Lighthouse in conjunction with local economic development organizations.
With a curriculum that emphasizes hands-on experience, the programming courses offers a dynamic education for people of all coding levels. The program boasts agile curriculum that focuses on the most relevant skills, industry professionals as teachers, keeps small classes with a 1 to 7 teacher to student ratios and uses a hands on approach where students spend over 75% of their time in class building real-world software.
About Lighthouse Labs: Founded in 2013, Lighthouse Labs is an immersive, modern approach to teaching web and mobile software development. With a hands on curriculum built by a community of industry experts, Lighthouse Labs focuses on transforming passionate people into agile programmers. Lighthouse Labs maintains unprecedented employment rates and has graduated over 400 students into amazing careers. www.lighthouselabs.ca.
